For your own safety as well as for the safety of others please read the following information carefully and comply with it.

SPEED LIMIT:

The following speed limits apply:

•  Motorways - maximum lOOkm/ph, minimum 60km/ph.

•   Inter-Urban Rural Roads - 80km/ph.

•   Built-up Areas- 50km/ph or as locally set (30km/h, 60km/ph). Exceeding the speed limit by up to 50% driver is charged with 2-4 demerit points and if more than 50% by 3-6 demerit points. Where a driver exceeds 12 penalty points, he is prosecuted and his license may be suspended by the court

ALCOHOL AND DRIVING:

It is prohibited to drive if the level of alcohol in the driver's blood or breath is more than the permissible limit.

Limit:

•  Blood- 50 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood (BAC 0.5 mg/ml)).

•  Breath- 22 micrograms of alcohol in 100 milliliters of exhaled air.

SEAT BELTS:

The use of seat belts is compulsory in the front and rear seats of motor vehicles. When carried in a vehicle, children less than 150cm in height must wear a suitable safety belt or be restrained with a suitable restrain system.

DRIVING LICENSE & INSURANCE CERTIFICATE:

A valid driving license as well as a valid insurance certificate are compulsory for the category of vehicle in use.

CRASH HELMET:

Drivers and passengers of motorcycles and mopeds must always wear a crash helmet.Persons under the age of 12 are not allowed to be carried as passengers on motorcycles and moppeds.

MOBILE PHONES:

Talking on a mobile phone, eating or drinking or any other act which could negatively affect your driving is an offence punishable with 85.43 euros.

FIXED FINES:

Fixed fines (i.e. those issued on the spot) for traffic offences are payable in euros at all police stations within 15 days from the date they have been issued. The fine is increased by 50% if it is paid within 16-30 days from the date of issuance. After that period the driver is prosecuted before the courts.

SPEED AND RED LIGHT CAMERAS:
